2.2 Do You See What I See?

"The majority (89.5%) of boys identified movies, television, magazines (e.g., Playboy), pornography, the Internet, and advertising as revealing their first sexual image. Not surprisingly, the most common type was viewing a “sex scene” in a movie or television show" (Allen & Lavender-Stott, 2015, p. 398).

I think the images may be different because boys have more curiosity, so they might be more likely to search images at earlier ages compared to girls. Boys might also pay more attention to their fathers and learn specific behaviors from them. Girls generally have less interest and are more likely to feel uncomfortable when viewing sex-related images.

2.3 There's A Word For That

1. Agentic: "Assuming no responsibility for actions or their consequences, only following the orders of someone in authority"

Ex: Dating someone because your parents said you should.

2. Cultural Narrative: "Describes what is unique about the place and the people your educational setting is part of"

Ex: A group of undergraduate students characterizing their first sexual image

3. Misogynistic: "Feeling, showing, or characterized by a hatred of women: of, relating to, or being a"

Ex: A male demanding sex from his partner and putting her down whether she says yes or no.

4. Sexually Explicit Content: "Defined as material that shows genitals in unconcealed ways and with oral, vaginal, and anal penetration, often in close-ups"

Ex: A couple performing sex positions naked.

5. Sexually Semi-explicit Content: "Is when nudity is featured and may involve intimate touching or sexual intercourse"

Ex: Two individuals mutually masturbating under the covers.

6. Sexually Non-explicit: "Refers to the depiction of sexual matters in indirect ways, as in the use of branded merchandise such as the Playboy logo on children’s t-shirts"

Ex: Sending flirty/risky messages.

7. Embedded Sexual Content: "Refers to sexualized content that is embedded within a larger context of nonsexual content, such as scenes in a soap opera where references to sexual interactions are made" (p. 396)

Ex:  A couple displaying "too much" PDA after months of not seeing each other.

Lyrics:
Let's chat about sex, buddy
Let's chat about he and she

Let’s talk about all the questions

All the consent that must be
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex

[Verse 1]
Let's chat about sex for a sec
To you, friends at school or around the block
SexEd will teach you anyway

Boys have parts that bring them joy and can’t stop it
he likes she and she likes he

It starts as puppy love only adoration…platonic kids

Many will know, anything goes

Boys see changes around fourteen, girls at 12

Deeper voices and “that time of the month”
Puberty hits-hormones start to fly
Will you be my girlfriend or we can even just hook up?
Just be aware of the downs too

And always get consent

Let's chat about sex, buddy
Let's chat about he and she

Let’s talk about all the questions

All the consent that must be
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex

Hot to trot, make any ones eyes pop

Pregnancies, STDs, pain, maybe anxiety

Just a few things to consider, sex can be tough for others

Looks can be deceiving, temptation is misleading

Know the consequences of sexting

Know the person you are with…keep on texting

Don’t ever kiss and tell for it is not gentleman

Focus on their needs too for she has lots of estrogen

Some people like the same gender, nothing is wrong with that

Some like making love, some like it quickly

Everyone is trying to find that someone clearly

Don’t have sex unless you are on the same page stiffly

Society has you thinking one thing

Thinking the items they don’t want you to cling

No love, just sex, followed with a check and a note

What will she have wrote?

Oh, hey, ooh, ooh, ooh, take it easy now
Uh, alright

Let's chat about sex, buddy
Let's chat about he and she

Let’s talk about all the questions

All the consent that must be
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex
Let's chat about sex
